The Sands is a vast expanse of sand and rock pools surrounded by cliffs, at the Eastern end of Port Eynon Bay. At very low tide it is possible to scramble over the rocks from The Cove into The Sands, but it is advisable to keep a close eye on the tide at all times. A footpath runs along the bottom of the cliff from Horton to Oxwich. There is no obvious footpath down to The Sands from this.

The cliff path leads East around Oxwich Point to Oxwich Bay or West to The Cove and Port Eynon.

Horton attracts many visitors each year. The beach is only a minute or so walk from the car park, through the sand dunes. There is always some sand, even at high tide. The beach is popular with surfers and wind surfers and there is a dog ban in place for part of the year. Floating bouys mark the place where The Prince Ivanhoe ran aground in 1981.
