Our Story so far...
Our story began in the summer of 2012 with 3 little VW campervans called Binky, Boris & Beryl.
Our vision - to create the ultimate pure family holidays in Wales.
Our career backgrounds in a fast-paced commercial world of business and mass-manufacture inspired us to find a way to enable people to switch off, explore and re-connect with the natural world, their families and themselves.
With our ever-devoted love for our West Highland Terrier - Woody; we experienced the struggle to find luxury dog-friendly accommodation in the UK, and eventually decided to purchase and convert a VW T5 van into the very first Scampervan!
Having spent many weekends and summer holidays touring the UK in our original Scampervan (which can still be found around the Gower Peninsula - now as a fruit & veg van!) we found that the mini-breaks brought us closer together and enabled us to truly relax and recharge our batteries.
With our demanding careers behind us, we set upon the idea of providing Pet-friendly Campervan holidays for guests to explore the wonder of beautiful Wales - and thus Scampervanhire Ltd was born.
After the first challenging season (The summer of 2012) we discovered a trend that many of our loyal guests, once set up on a Gower campsite, did not want to drive the Campervans! They instead opted to use the campervan and awning as their base-camp accommodation, and explored the local area by car. This lightbulb moment sent Mark back to his family's farming roots, where the idea of creating luxury shepherd hut accommodations on Gower campsites was born.
Our 2nd year of trading (2013) brought the companies change of name from Scampervanhire Ltd to the now well-known and loved Scamperholidays Ltd. The companies offerings grew in stages from the exisiting 3 touring Scampervans, to classic shepherd huts, Grand Shepherd huts and Super-Grands Shepherd huts at Three Cliffs Bay. Furnished with beautiful homely decoration, and complete with a full kitchen & bedding ensemble, we set upon spreading the word of our new luxury pet-friendly venture, and welcomed many wonderful VIP's throughout the season.
2014 brought the expansion and grand-opening of our second site at the picturesque Pitton Cross Caravan & Camping Park, Rhossili. With their open all-year-round license, we were now able to bring our VIP's to our beautiful glamping shepherd huts during the Winter as well as Summertime. Our brand new Grand and Super-Grand shepherd huts were landscaped within a paddock at the campsite, and kitchen facilities were upgraded to provide suitable indoor cooking facilities all-year-round.
Another trend we discovered was that many people enquired for a more back-to-basics camping holiday, but either did not have, or did not want to travel with a car full of kit. Due to the naturally windy nature of the Gower Peninsula we developed our Timber Tents - a wooden cabin bedroom with a timber frame and tented kitchen awning - and located one at each site.
At the end of the year we were honoured and delighted to attend and recieve awards for the winner of "Best Alternative Accommodation" & "Best Visitor Experience" at the Tourism Swansea Bay Awards 2014.
In 2015, having experienced a few minor incidents involving guests driving the Scampervans, we took the brave decision to restrict the campervan accommodation to a static option at our brand new third site - Kennexstone camping & Touring Park, Llangennith. Linked-up with quirky tiki-inspired huts, air-tents & glamping pods, for the first time we were able to offer acommodations that could sleep up to 6 persons on North Gower.
This year also saw the launch of our delicious range of holiday upgrades, provided by the wonderful Coffee Shop Three Cliffs at Pennard, Southgate, which proved to be a very popular and successful addition to our holiday offering.
Once again we were honoured to attend the National Tourism Awards for Wales 2015 where we were delighted to collect our Bronze award in the Alternative Accommodation category.
2016 brought big change with the consolidation of sites down to 2 super-performing locations at Rhossili & Llangennith, along with the opening of an on-site office and shop at Llangennith. We strengthened our local links, enabling us to offer activities and incentives to our VIP's for everything from Spa Days to Wetland Centre tickets & Waterpark tickets. This culminated in the largest prize give-away to date in the national Coast Magazine, where we brought together several activity providers and dining establishments in a 2 week holiday prize to celebrate the Visit Wales Year of Adventure.
At the end of 2016 we received confirmation that we had been shortlisted for the Swansea Bay Business Awards 2017 in the Tourism & Hospitality Business of the Year category - an event that we are privileged to attend and look forward to with great enthusiasm.
And that is where we pause our writing to continue this remarkable Scamper adventure journey!
We hope that you have enjoyed getting to know us, and look forward to welcoming you to our luxury accommodations on the Gower Peninsula very soon.
